Marylebone - Exploring Westminster's Villages
Sherlock Holmes Statue
Marylebone is best know for 221b Baker Street, the home of Sherlock Holmes, the famous detective. It's also where the Madame Tussauds waxworks is located. The area still retains a distinctive, village like atmosphere, despite its close proximity to nearby busy Oxford Street, its High Street and surrounding roads, offers a quieter place to shop popular with those in the know.
The Marylebone bespoke walking tour explores the area's fascinating and sometimes quite frankly scandalous history with a backdrop of beautiful architecture, elegant Georgian squares and charming, back streets.
Marylebone is an area I know well as I reguarly lead public tours on behalf of the Baker Street Quarter Partnership and I've also created and lead Discovering Marylebone, a special bespoke walking tour exclusively for guests of The Landmark London. Marylebone, fashionable and affluent area, has something for everyone and I will design a tour that meets your groups interest.
I can offer generic Marylebone Highlights tours with a visit to its delightful High Street, small local park and grand Georgian squares with stories about The Beatles, Madame Tussauds, Charles Dickens and of course Sherlock Holmes.
Alternatively I can lead a social and medical history themed walk which includes Florence Nightingale, Joseph Merrick, better known as the Elephant Man, and the place where King George VI attended speech therapy.
Paddington Street Gardens
The Marylebone bespoke walking tours are popular with individuals and larger corporate groups, who want to go off piste from the main tourist area and are looking for a tour with a bit of local flavour.
Particularly popular with larger groups are my scandalous pub walks which feature Edward and Mrs Simpson, the Profumo Affair and a pub or two.
